Foxgloves & Ivy Floral Design Studio moved to a new location in May 2008. Located in Oakland Park Condominiums, Atlanta’s first LEED Certified condominium building in Atlanta, F&I, with it’s lease, became Atlanta’s first ‘Green Florist’. What does this mean?
Committed to doing our part in the fight to protect our planet, F&I is practicing what it preaches. During the build out of the new store, where ever possible, recycled or recyclable materials were used in construction. All construction debris, with very little exception, was placed into recycle programs. A tankless electric hot water system was installed as was a lowflow toilet. Low EVO paint was used, environmentally safe insulation placed in the walls, actually exceeding the minimum requirement to further insulate the space. No halogens or incandescent lights are in use, rather, F&I converted low priced IKEA light fixtures with adapters, allowing us to use Compact Florescent light bulbs for all lighting.
F&I continues its program of environmentally conscious operations by using all ‘green’ waste (stems, leaves, etc) in compost; collecting and repurposing any water used in the store for watering plants, both inside & out; plastics, metal, glass & paper go in to recycle programs and we are introducing a new policy on vase return. Regardless of whether your vases came from us or not, we will accept them. If they cannot be used by us, we will place them in a recycling program.
Finally, a direct benefit to our customers, both old and new — F&I will not purchase flowers, plants or other products that contain pesticides or other harmful chemicals. Granted, we don’t have total control over what a grower, packer or shipper does in other countries, but our suppliers and brokers have promised to honor our request for ‘eco-safe’ flowers. Additionally, we will never knowingly purchase product from companies or suppliers that do not adhere to proper workers’ rights policies, implemented within our industry by the US Agriculture & other governmental agencies.
